WSP Environment & Energy is a global consultancy providing advice on all aspects of environmental, energy, sustainability, climate change, and business risk issues. They offer expertise in remediation of contaminated land to devising corporate climate change adaptation strategies; and from geotechnical solutions to city master planning, renewable energy strategies and environmental planning.

Relevant experience

  • Developed a Sustainability Policy that every WSP business must adhere to and reach the mandatory Bronze standard, although many businesses have already achieved gold status. These standards involve:

    • Measurement of carbon emissions

    • A business plan to address internal performance on sustainability

    • Development of a plan to reduce carbon intensity

    • Evidence of reduction in carbon intensity

    • Carbon budgets as well as financial budgets for business units

    • Carbon neutral business

  • Using the Carbon Disclosure Approach WSP reduced the UK’s energy usage by 9.8% and is aiming for a further 10% reduction this year.

  • WSP staff are encouraged to make intelligent travel choices and maximise use of audio and video conferencing and online collaboration tools.

  • They have also introduced Personal Allowance Carbon Tracking (PACT) where participants receive a carbon allowance and calculate personal direct carbon emissions and house energy consumption. Staff who exceed their personal allowance must pay into a scheme where contributions are paid to into the Carbon Fund.

  • Advise cities on developing a climate change adaption plan assessing the impact of climate change on key aspects of a city including economic, energy, infrastructure and the environment.

  • Advise Government on sustainable development.

  • Develop carbon accreditation scheme for the Airports Council International in Europe to provide a benchmark for carbon management across Europe’s airports.

  • Pioneering green leases in commercial operations to help property clients manage carbon and environmental issues.
